The heart of Realities For Children’s work as a Nonprofit in Fort Collins is our clear and unwavering mission: to provide for the emergency and ongoing support needs of children in Northern Colorado who have been abused, neglected, or are at-risk. This mission, established by a former child protection case manager, arose from years of witnessing children “slipping through the cracks of the system”. The organization was created to serve as a comprehensive safety net, ensuring no child is forgotten.
Our vision is ambitious: to build a resource unparalleled in the world, one that empowers the child protection community through collaboration, fiscal efficiency, and a strong continuum of service. This involves connecting every member of the community—business leaders, human services, and consumers—in a mutually beneficial link. This local commitment is central to our identity as a responsible Nonprofit in Fort Collins.
The Three Pillars of the Healing Philosophy
The effectiveness of this safety net is defined by our comprehensive healing philosophy, which identifies and supports three essential legs of service in providing for children who have faced trauma. This approach ensures that we address the immediate crisis while also fostering long-term recovery and empowerment.
- Immediate Needs: We work to identify and meet the immediate, unmet, and Child Abuse Emergency Services so that no child’s urgent need is overlooked.
- Effective Support: Once stabilized, we provide the effective support services necessary for the healing process and the path of recovery to begin.
- Empowerment: Finally, we focus on providing services that equip, support, and provide resources so that children are empowered to break the cycle of abuse as they grow.
Each of our six Core Services and Programs is intentionally designed to strengthen one of these three legs, creating a fully supported journey toward healing.
Values Driving Local Impact
Our Core Values—Integrity, Servant Leadership, Collaboration, Excellence, and Respect—are the guiding principles for every action we take. The value of Collaboration is particularly critical, as the organization was established to unite the many valuable youth organizations in collaborative, non-competitive service, thereby maximizing resources for children in need.
This innovative design, which privately underwrites all administrative costs through business memberships, means that 100% of all public donations are directed to supporting the children served. This commitment to fiscal efficiency and local impact is what makes us a recognized and trusted force for Child Abuse Prevention Larimer County. By uniting the community in service, we effectively create an opportunity for everyone to make a profound difference in a child’s life.
