In Northern Colorado, the reality for many children involves facing circumstances of abuse, neglect, or extreme risk. When these crises occur, the immediate need for support is paramount. Realities For Children serves as a critical safety net, specifically designed to provide Child Abuse Emergency Services that address the urgent requirements of youth who might otherwise slip through the cracks of the system.
A Unique Model of Support
The foundation of our organization is built upon a revolutionary hybrid business model that ensures maximum impact for every dollar raised. Realities For Children is comprised of two distinct yet collaborative entities. The first is Realities For Children, Inc., a cause-marketing organization supported by local Business Members. These members pay monthly fees that cover all administrative costs and marketing expenses.
Because these overhead costs are covered privately, the second entity—Realities For Children Charities (a 501c3)—is able to maintain a standard of 100% distribution. This means that 100% of all donations go directly to supporting the children we serve. This transparent funding model allows us to act swiftly when emergency grants are requested by our partner agencies.
The Three Legs of Healing
Our approach to aiding children who have faced trauma is guided by a comprehensive healing philosophy. We believe that recovery requires a stable foundation, which we visualize as three essential “legs” of service:
- Emergency Needs: The first leg focuses on identifying and meeting immediate, unmet needs so that no child is forgotten in a moment of crisis.
- Support Services: Once the emergency is stabilized, the second leg provides effective support to begin the long-term healing process.
- Empowerment: The third leg provides the resources and tools necessary to empower youth as they grow, helping them break the cycle of abuse for good.
By focusing on these areas, our Child Abuse Prevention in Larimer County efforts go beyond simple reaction; we strive to create a continuum of care that fosters resilience and hope.
Collaboration as a Catalyst for Change
Realities For Children was founded by a former child protection case manager who saw firsthand the gaps in the traditional social services framework. To bridge these gaps, we have united various youth organizations into a collaborative alliance. As a leading Nonprofit in Fort Collins, we do not compete with our partner agencies for funding; instead, we provide the supplemental resources they need to serve children effectively.
Our core values of Integrity, Servant Leadership, Collaboration, Excellence, and Respect guide every emergency grant and program we underwrite. We are committed to building a resource that empowers the entire child protection community through fiscal efficiency and a strong continuum of service.
Through the committed work of Realities For Children and our dedicated business members, we ensure that the emergency and ongoing support needs of Northern Colorado’s most vulnerable children are met with urgency and compassion.
